Pixels are my friends. Paths, though, scare me. That is why, compared to Illustrator, I’ve always preferred Photoshop. Or Paintshop Pro. Or even MSPaint. Rasters are easy for me; clean vectors are not.
With that, I toiled and toiled in Illustrator yesterday. Tracing, drawing, redrawing, redoing, redrawing again, retracing. Practice really is the best way to teach yourself. I still have a long way to go in learning the fine art of the bezier curve, but I’ve finally started to make some progress.
Here’s my first real vector thing:
There’s a lot of room for improvement (the handle could be smoother; the grating is a bit meh; I couldn’t be bothered with the logo/type work, as everything I tried looked bad; etc) but it’s a decent start, if I do say so myself.
