To the technical bookworm geek out there, the demise of Wrox and Friends of Ed might be a bitter pill to swallow. I couldn’t care less as I don’t own any of their books, but I have heard good things about Wrox publications. I’m a New Riders/O’Reilly type myself, so I can’t vouch for those claims, but losing the competition is a bummer.
Good riddance to Friends of Ed, though. They might have been decently designed, but mere browsing of their books showed how weak their “technical” material was. The quote that sums it up nicely is:
By hacks for hacks.
It’s been a hard year for web related print publications (and it’s only March!). First Shift and Create Online died (appropriate link). Now this. Too bad. Or not.
