Master Quest

Having never played The Legend of Zelda: The Ocarina of Time the first time around, the pre-order promotion for The Wind Waker is a boon. While I was initially put-off by the old school, low-poly graphics, I’m quickly finding out why this game is so highly regarded. If promotions like this are the start of a trend, in which older games are given away for free in conjunction with new releases, then I wholly welcome it. Nintendo has been especially…

The Perfecter Pump

We’ve all seen the commercial. Jerry Seinfeld drives into a gas station and watches some shmuck fill up for $20.03 worth of gas. He then goes and does the “perfect pump”: twenty dollars, even. Well, if that is a perfect pump, then I have a perfecter pump. The set-up: I need gas, I am thirsty, and I have only three five dollar bills and some spare change. I pull in to the gas station, grab the nozzle, and start pumping.…

Be ready!

Ready.gov, the U.S. Department of Homeland Insecurity’s scare initiative, went live recently and it instantly became comic fodder. It’s nicely designed and all, but these are easy joke targets, as Y!H! immediately proved. Not surprisingly, today’s The Daily Show was on top of it too. The US Government is a funny, funny (read: stupid) thing. Here’s another reason: Operation Kuwaiti Fried Chicken.

nowak vs. Capcom vs. SNK vs. online

As mentioned in a past comment, I do indeed have Capcom vs SNK 2 EO for the XBox. First, a little bit of history: Excluding the Tekken series, I’m not the biggest fan of fighting games. Now, it hasn’t always been like this. I really enjoyed Street Fighter II Turbo back in the day, and I considered myself halfway decent. I used to play it late into the night with my then friends. It was the standard “loser passes the…

The Century Mark

Mississauga Computer Books, a fine local source of, well, computer books, is closing shop. Sadly. On the up side, this means that there’s a clearance sale. Now, a 30%+ saving might seem like a big deal, but when you go to the counter with an armful of computer books, it feels miniscule. The exorbitant price of said books virtually negates all but the most unprofitable of discounts. I still can’t understand why these blocks of paper, with no colour, no…

O*Flash

Ad*Access is a database of over 7000 print advertisements from 1911 to 1955. There’s some nice stuff there if you’re into retro ads. I couldn’t agree more with the statement “I don’t hate Flash; I just hate what it does to designers.” Make your own O’Reilley cover.

Mike here.

It loaded very slowly for me, and opens in an annoying pop-up — but other than those hassles, gorgeous.co.uk is the best Flash site ever*. * Disclaimer: Not really the best, but pretty good.

Roar Collections

It will be a long, long time before I can have a collection comparable to any of the ones shown here. The top left picture is appropriately named “holy fuck .jpg.”

Posterize

Just in time for my… Wednesday, I received a couple of posters from Basefield. They’re not the most stupendously amazing things, but they’re quite nice. What I’d really like, though, is a few posters from printem. I particularly like those by Kusano and Okubo. Massive Attack has a new site and, apparently, a new album (?).

Eye Gouging FFR

Haven’t seen this Flash game before: Flash Flash Revolution is, you guessed it, a DDR immitator, albeit a crappy one. It’s ugly as fuck, loads slow, the music is poor, but… on second thought, I don’t really have anything nice to say about it. It might be fun, I guess. If you’re into such a thing. Norway MP plays PDA game during war debate — this seems rather overblown to me. If anything, this whole affair shows just how eye…

Shmup Spawn

Much like Gamespot’s Ricardo Torres, the anticipation for Ikaruga and the joy of Panzer Dragoon Orta has inspired me to seek out more shooter action. Especially of the old school variety. Looking at the game selection at a couple of local stores, I came to the realization that this genre is so under-represented, it’s sad. And it’s not like there aren’t any such titles out there; there are a few. It’s just that they target such a niche market, there…

Ain’t IT ANNOYING it IS! yeah!!!!

Ain’t It Cool Games has launched and, in the end, it feels somewhat uninspired. I should give it some time first, though — but right now it’s just another game related weblog with some average (at best) reviews and previews. LUCKILY it does seem LESS ENTHUSIASTIC and EXCLAMATION HAPPY than Ain’t It Cool News!!! I never did like AICNews. Interview with Louis Castle of the now dead Westwood. It’s a year old, but still interesting.

This weblog has a new post.

I have seen the future, and it is talking cars. No. None of that flying shit that we’ve been expecting since the fifties. Flying is so passe; talking is where it’s at. Because, when your suburban minivan is backing out of a mall parking spot, you need to announce to everyone in hearing distance that you are backing out. Those lights that indicate that a vehicle is in reverse just aren’t enough. What is really needed is an annoying female…
