I was browsing my “Music videos” playlist on YouTube the other day and I was amazed at the number of dead videos. LARGE image follows.

Thank you music labels for not letting me see your commercials! It’s weird seeing the differences between those that are still available and those that aren’t. They’re so arbitrary at times. “Wish” by Nine Inch Nails is gone, but “March of the Pigs” remains? One Royksopp “What Else is There?” (awesome track on a disappointing album) is gone but another stays? For every one of those removed videos, I’m sure I can easily find a replacement. Kind of highlights the futility of it all.

Strong agreement on the advert thingy. There’s a reason music videos are called “Promos”.

Quoth Charlie Brooker: “It’s like music, minus the whole point of music: that you’re supposed to listen to it, not watch it.” ( http://youtube.com/watch?v=5k1W1zjyyfw )

You tube’s fairly poor sound and lack of regular music player functions (shuffle, loop etc) mean it’ll never be a replacement for general listening (or DVDs of promos on the video side for that matter). Why can’t they leave this stuff up for the fairly innocuous act of research?
