Get Your Shine On

City Creator scores a bonus 10 points for not using Flash, and you can’t help but like the campy illustrated nature of old 50s advertisements. I’d like to like Mario Sunshine more than I do, but I can’t. At it’s core, it is a great game. Very open, exploratory, with a lot of intuitive (and not so intuitive) uses for the water cannon. Searching for, and finding, coins and shines is the bulk of the game, and it’s the best…

Welcome September

This Exif Image Viewer is a handy little application if you have to manage hundreds of digital photos. Yes, there is already a handful of such viewers out there (I have three installed on my computer as it is), but there are some nice features and details available in this one. Even better, the whole thing is only 469kb… so there’s no reason for you to not try it (if you’re on a PC.) [via milov] After listening to all…

About bloody time

Yes. Yes! Yes! I was starting to think that it might never see the light of day, but they are finally, finally going to release Season One of Babylon 5 on DVD this November. This makes my day! After much delay, I finally snagged Wipeout Fusion. While I admit that it doesn’t add anything new to the series as it relies on the established futuristic hover-car formula (if there is such a thing), it’s still a quick paced, fun, and…

Perseid or bust

Geek license plate sighting of the day: A JEDI. So I drove up north and sat down at some quiet place by Lake Simcoe. I sat there and watched the sunset. It was the kind of colourful, misty kind of dusk that made me wish I had my camera back. The sky slowly turned black and the first stars started to show up. I just lied there on the grass, waiting for the first signs of the Perseid meteor shower…

Video theme

Sticking with the music video theme, there is this video (Royksopp – ‘Remind Me’) — which has an incredibly slick vector/3d infographic look to it. It reminds me of the Plaid: ‘Itsu’ video by Pleix, albeit in a more forceful, less infographic focused kind of way. Stop Calling Games “Addictive”!.

Pixelated video goodness by the fine folks at shynola who, coincidentally, are currently featured in a video spotlight at sputnik7 (bottom of page.)

Pilgrims and murderers

I am 95% certain that I went to the same elementary school (and high school, to a degree) as this guy. I didn’t know him personally, but I wouldn’t be surprised if, in fact, it is him and he is guily. Here’s a thought: I was nearly in a fight with that guy in grade seven or thereabouts. Now that’s something to think about: “I was almost in a fight with a future murderer.” Oh wait, sorry… “suspected” murderer. I…

about:Mozilla

Mozilla 1.1b has just been released. The timing is perfect as I’ve just today decided to make the switch (no, not that switch) from IE6 to Mozilla full time. There are a few issues. Speed, for example, is a bit of an issue with Mozilla. It renders fine, it’s just the loading of the browser and the javascript performance that are at issue. Similarly, losing the embeded nature of IE is a bit of a pain when developing site layouts…

Mixed bag

Shit like this makes me hate my line of work. The lost Apple “Switch” commercial. Skipping rope for the glory of god! Interviews with classic computer and video game programmers. I don’t know if this will be useful to anyone — including myself — but you can download the Canada wordmark in eps or tif format over here. For all the stock photography sites around, there are very few stock vector image sites (to my knowledge) — especially ones dealing…

Otherwise…

Don’t you hate it when you get on a crowded subway and see someone that you know that you know, but you can’t quite pinpoint how or where from? I know I do. It was bugging me the whole subway ride, and all I could come up with was: “I know her,” “she’s Polish,” and “I think I had a class with here somewhere in either high school or university, but not quite sure.” Damn, now it’s going to bother…

1049

Weltschmerz – a local, satirical cartoon. Nice vectory illustrations over at demisecomics. Sci-fi themed illustrations and sketches at agent44 (gotta like the giant robots). Robots? Robots? Tekko 2 is opening at the Museum of Contemporary Canadian Art this Friday. The last one was posters, this one is murals. Might be deserving of a look (though I was kinda disappointed with the first Tekko). 20twelve.net and mikenowak.ca now point to each other like some sort of self-referential meta-feedback loop. And for…

The Sun, it burns!

Spent the entire weekend out in the burning, hot, stupidly hot and burning sun watching the Toronto Molson Indy. Without question, my zombie like complexion didn’t react to the sunlight well. Red is now the dominant colour on my face, and the top of my arms. The main event, the CART race, proved to be a rather boring one. DaMatta qualified for the pole position, started in the pole position, and was first for the whole race. By comparison, the…

Rank humidity

With this untolerable heat and humidity, the garbage situation in the city of Toronto is getting really bad. The piles of garbage are growing in places, and with the unmerciful sun boiling the black garbage bags from the inside out, the smell is starting to spread. Luckily, Toronto still doesn’t smell as bad as Hamilton… heh. Such Torontonian things make me glad that I live in the peaceful, less rank, suburbs of Mississauga. As an extra bonus, our mayor isn’t…
