Tweaked

A weblog post about tweaks to the weblog is about as irrelevant as you can get, but such is the nature of this place: irrelevant. I’ve cleaned up some xhtml, fixed the archive pages a bit, updated my age on the info page (been 24 for half a year now, sheesh), and removed a lot of unnecesary navigation. The problem now is that the navigation area seems too bare. It should be fixed if/when I add a “contact” option there,…

Things to do When You’re *REALLY* Bored

Episode One: construct a four storey tall house out of your games! Either that or play them, but that’s a less creative endeavour.

Canada Day for the Non-Social

Things to do to celebrate Canada Day without leaving the home or going near any other people: Get drunk on some local micro-brewery beer. Listen to some Skinny Puppy and Frontline Assembly or, er, some Tragically Hip and Sloan Play Splinter Cell or Homeworld or Knights of the Old Republic or Legacy of Kain or NHL whatever or Unreal or SSX 3. Follow the latest off-season NHL news as the free-agent market heats up. But mostly just get drunk.

Euro

The two weeks since I left my full-time salaried job have been far busier than any such time span during my employment period. It’s reassuring (no slumping into general vegetation), but also downright annoying. Especially with the nice weather. However, one of the benefits is that my afternoons have been more flexible — perfect for viewing live Eurocup 2004 games. Since I’m neutral with my Euro picks, I mostly just cheer against a few teams. It’s more fun that way.…

Make Your Vote Count

You’ll have to excuse me, but I do need to make one pre-election political rant. I haven’t been following the proceedings too closely, but the few things that I have seen I do not like. So if you have no interest in Canadian politics, skip this — there are plenty of recent links here instead. Election day is Monday (Correction, next Monday not this Monday. I’m stupid.) and it’s looking to be a close, close race. It’s looking like a…

The 5k, and other small things

Remember the 5k? The competition for doing webby things within the confines of 5,120 bytes? Yeah, I almost forgot about it myself. It’s been in stasis for a while and there was no competition for 2003. Earlier this year, it was announced, to little fanfare, that Siggraph was taking over the 5k. The Siggraph page was vacuous: little information, no details on what and when to submit, and some vague deadline periods in the Spring. Nothing was there and I…

Excuuuuse Me Priiiincesss

This is so awesome. Episodes of the Super Mario Bros. Super Show and The Legend of Zelda streamed to you and available for free! Oh man that’s some campy retro goodness. Spunky Zelda and that whiny, horny, jerk Link — Link’s never been looked at in the same light since that series aired. Now if only they had Captain N…

Kerry Fraser should be hanged by his intestines

Explain to me how, after this and this, Kerry “Hair” Fraser got to be a referee for game seven. This isn’t the first game seven that he fucked up. And I’m not talking about the high-stick call at the end of the third. I’m talking about the bullshit tripping penalty in the first — a similar move to the one a Tampa player did just before Tampa’s game six winning goal, and I’m talking about the missed high-stick just before…

Countdown

Counting down the days. The current count is: two. If all goes well, they will pass quickly and then I shall be let loose into the abyss of uncertainty. It sounds fun. What I look forward to the most is the likelihood for more frequent downtown visits. As strange as it sounds, I miss going downtown daily. I miss it even though I detest the busyness, the congestion and the noise. I miss it despite my utter loathing of large…

I Hate Email

My primary email is a catch-all wildcard account, so anything @ this domain will get to me. This is convenient for a lot of reasons. Anyway, my two primary aliases for the past four years were at an annoyingly lousy spam-to-legitimate-mail ratio. I can set up multiple POP accounts and unlimited aliases, so when I got sick of that crap I created a new junk account and set all mail targetting those old aliases to go to the junkbin. Overnight,…

I Quiiiiiit

I should be thankful that this eBay auction (!!) grew so far out of my price range. That money would be better served staying in my bank account in anticipation of my upcoming return to joblessness. Yes, as of June 8th, I shall be free of this place. What will come next? Who knows. I thought I had something in line, but there’s been no word on that: never a positive sign. In the meantime, it shall be a return…

New Release Day

Millions of nerds are collectively creaming their pants today as that Rings movie is officially released. Not me. No, today marks the release of two far more interesting things: Skinny Puppy’s Greater Wrong of the Right and the XBox release of Metal Slug 3. While the anticipation for these titles doesn’t make me any less of a nerd, it does make me a hipper nerd. While it will accompany me to the cash register the next time I’m in HMV…

Elections

All of a sudden, it’s federal election time. Unlike the US, where it’s months and months and months of non-stop campaigning, here we do things quick. In Canada, it’s a few weeks of “when’s the election? when’s the election?” followed by “BAM! Election time!” for, like, a month and then, BAM!, we either have the same dipshit goverment for another four or five years or another dipshit government for four or five years. At least here out choices for lousy…
