Things that annoy me

This might seem really stupid and anal, but as far as computer terminology goes, the following is a major pet peeve of mine: Working with Flash as often as I do, I tend to hear the word “aliased” when mentioning pixel fonts. This annoys me immensely. There is no such word. I understand that it might be seen to be the opposite to anti-aliased, but it’s not. If a font is not anti-aliased, then it is regarded as being displayed…

31 reasons…

Here are 31 reasons supporting the case against MSIE. I finally caved and subscribed to GameSpot Complete. I’m still undecided as to whether it was a good idea. One of the “only on GameSpot Complete” features right now is the Zelda trailer… which has been available on the Zelda site for a week. Whoop-dee-doo. Farm Sluts is hilarious, well worth the time to watch it.

truer words…

I can’t remember where I saw the following expression first, but it has stuck with me. If you are 20 and not a liberal, you have no heart. If you are 40 and not a conservative, you have no brain. I don’t know what it is that you lack if you are 23 and ‘centrist,’ though I feel a bit dirty for using a word like centrist. More importantly, I can’t tell if this is satire. Also worth noting, the…

Simpsons tedium

Extremely over-used Simpsons reference #234: I, for one, welcome our *whatever* overlords. As far as any discussion areas are concerned, this one is #233.

Speaking of lists, I found these interesting: top ten digital photography tips and 101 things that Mozilla can do that IE can’t. Seen on Slashdot recently: ferrago.co.uk. Into the bloated favourites folder you go. Today is my sister’s birthday. She’s turning a scary old fifteen. I still remember the day she was born. I remember getting the newly released The Legend of Zelda that day as a gift (yes, video games are that engrained in my life, they are the…

Vice City Top Ten (point 5)

Now that I’ve logged a fair bit of time with it, here’s my GTA: Vice City “Top Ten (Point Five) Things I Like About Vice City Compared To GTA3” list. It’s long, so I more‘d it. Ten: Degenatron [link from Kent Paul.]

I link you up

Browsing the recent additions at linkdup, I came across two interesting sites: PBS’s art:21, art in the 21st century; and the Visual Thesaurus. I guess that this band site is also worth a look, but I have certain issues with the navigation — so I relegate it to “guess it’s ok” status. They’re somewhat low-quality, but one can get a good sense of the city from them: toronto pics. Now this is a costume.

Ice City

Interesting article about Vice City in the Times, though I don’t quite understand why it’s in the Fashion and Style section… ? Things are looking rather bleak in Leaf-land right now, and while I’d normally be either really upset, or frustratingly annoyed, I find myself not caring too much because one of my teams is doing pretty good: my sportingnews salary cap fantasy team. Not only have I been number one in my division for nearly two weeks straight now,…

Tinkering

I’ve done some changes around here: cleaned up some of the site structure and made some fixes — finally validating as xhtml 1.1 again. Things should be more sound on a structural level than before, and should be readable across any platform. I know it’s probably not needed, as my audience (or lack of) doesn’t warrant it, but it doesn’t hurt. To check, here’s a few WAP emulators and some archaic browser emulators. Or, if you don’t want to bother…

Metroid

Oh shit yeah, if you link Metroid Fusion with Metroid Prime using the GBA link cable, you can play the original Metroid. The GC Zelda is also supposed to have link functionality with the GBA remake of Link to the Past, but what that functionality will be has been kept quiet so far. It wouldn’t be too crazy to assume that the original NES Zelda will be available. With all this, and the NES games in Animal Crossing, and with…

This World Conflict Map: 2001 is interesting, albeit a bit out of date.

Up Up, Down, Down

They are vague, but they are still there. Fond memories from when I was nine or ten years old, blowing shit up. Working together with a friend, yet, at the same time, competing for supremacy… and for the spread gun. I still remember ‘up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, B, A’ and the rejoicing when it was finally completed. Yes, if you had an NES in your youth, or knew someone that did, chances are you’ve had at…
